Resources for Student Journalists

and School Newspaper Advisers

 

The News & Observer. Find a wealth of information from the paper’s Newspapers in Education (NIE) department. The newspaper offers tours, guest speakers and literature on journalism careers.

 

North Carolina Scholastic Media Association, located in the School of Journalism and Mass Communication at UNC-Chapel Hill. The organization sponsors the annual Central North Carolina High School Journalism Day at UNC-CH and offers a variety of educational opportunities for students and advisers.

 

ASNE High School Journalism.org, presented by the American Society of Newspaper Editors. Find abundant useful links to help launch, improve, and defend your high school newspaper. The site includes a hosting service for online newspapers of high schools and middle and elementary schools.

 

National Scholastic Press Association. This association has been supporting student journalists for more than 80 years.

 

Columbia Scholastic Press Association. This group holds conferences and workshops that are great places to meet others involved in student newspapers.

 

Student Press Law Center. The center provides advice and advocacy for student’s free-press rights.
